Optimistic for Growth, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi Reveals Kertajati Airport Development Strategy in the Future

Jakarta, InfoPublik - The Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, is optimistic that the West Java International Airport area Kertajati, Majalengka will develop given the potential of the airport.

For this reason, he also continues to encourage the optimization of Kertajati Airport to support connectivity and improve services for the community.

“Kertajati Airport has good potential. We from the Ministry of Transportation will support all efforts made to develop Kertajati airport,” he said as quoted by InfoPublik on Friday (10/1/2025).

Throughout 2024, passenger movements to and from Kertajati Airport amounted to 413,240 passengers. 82.8 percent were domestic flights, while 17.2 percent were international flights.

“The number of passenger movements tripled compared to 2023 which amounted to 135,535 passengers,” said the Minister of Transportation.

Meanwhile, the number of aircraft movements throughout 2024 amounted to 3,411 flights. This number increased 158 percent compared to 2023 which amounted to 1,323 flights.

The dominance of flights is still on domestic destinations with the most flight routes to and from Denpasar, Medan, and Balikpapan.

“We are inviting airlines to open routes and serve regular flights to and from Kertajati Airport. The airport area will also be developed optimally,” said the Minister of Transportation.

There are four main strategies in developing the Kertajati Airport area. The first is to optimize the airport land area of 1,800 hectares (ha) by placing strategic facilities that are integrated through one transportation mode system (APMS).

The areas that will be integrated are the terminal building, mixed use commercial area, e-commece hub, and Kertajati Aircraft Maintenance Center (KAMC).

Second, developing non-aeronautical facilities or mixed use commercial areas located in the center of the potential airport area with an area of 21.9 Ha.

These facilities are supporting facilities that support activities at the airport, such as hotels, business activity event spaces (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and, Exhibitions / MICE), leisure malls, parking lots, and others.

Third, developing an e-commerce hub area as a cargo logistics center. This area has an area of 68.4 hectares with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year.

Kertajati Airport will increase cargo activity by incentivizing warehouse rates and air cargo / regulated agent (RA) rates, increasing flight routes and frequencies, and providing trucking incentives.

The fourth is to develop the Kertajati Aircraft Maintenance Center (KAMC) on an area of 84.2 hectares. In this KAMC there are airport maintenance facilities or Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO).

Based on data from the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operation, 46 percent of Indonesian aircraft still conduct MRO activities abroad. This indicates a market opportunity to develop MRO facilities in Kertajati.

Kertajati Airport will also take a number of steps to increase passenger and flight movements. Among other things, by rebranding the airport through promotions and bundling discounts with tourist tickets and hotels, maximizing the position as an Umrah and Hajj departure airport, and providing incentives to airlines that open new routes.
