SKK Migas Records Gas Production Reaching 7,399 Million Cubic Feet per Day

Jakarta - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), recorded the latest record of national gas production reaching 7,399 million cubic feet per day (Million Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day / MMSCFD), which was achieved on Wednesday (4/9/2024).

This was conveyed by the Head of Programme and Communication Division of SKK Migas, Hudi D Suryodipuro, through an official statement, Wednesday (11/9/2024).

Mr Suryodipuro said the success was due to the full operation of the three-train Tangguh Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant with an average LNG production of 2.1 billion cubic feet per day from its three liquefaction plants.

"Since April 2024, Tangguh LNG has been fully operational with three trains. From then on, monthly production has continued to increase and managed to record its highest production on 31 August and has now managed to produce 1,300 m3/hour of LNG and even reached 106 per cent of its capacity," said Hudi.

Hudi said that this achievement is inseparable from the success of the executing agency's Cooperation Contractors (PSCs) who are able to operate Tangguh LNG optimally, and ultimately have a positive impact in the form of additional national gas production.

Hudi said that Tangguh LNG's integrated gas development facility is key to the successful achievement of the production target, given that Tangguh is the number one contributor to gas production and contributes around one-third of national gas production.

According to Mr Hudi, Tangguh LNG's contribution is more than 2.5 times the contribution of other PSCs under it, so his party ensures that it will continue to maintain Tangguh LNG's operations well as a form of contribution in maintaining energy supply while supporting national energy security.

Furthermore, he believes that the gas production target of 12 (Billion Standard Cubic Feet per Day/BSCFD) or Billion Standard Cubic Feet per Day in 2030 can be realised, considering that oil and gas discoveries are currently dominated by gas discoveries, as well as the accelerated efforts that continue to be made by SKK Migas and KKKS so that every gas discovery can be produced immediately.

"Currently and in the future, upstream oil and gas projects are dominated by gas projects. In 2024 alone, from the target of 15 onstream projects, 10 of them are gas projects. Therefore, we are confident that the gas production target of 12 BSCFD in 2030 can be realised," he said.

Hudi said that currently the trend of gas production continues to increase, and the government has approved the POD of the Makassar Strait North Hub Development Project which is expected to start production in 2028, with peak production reaching 1,000 MMSCFD.
